Isadore Efron (1903-1980) started a taxi business in the early 1920s which expanded rapidly in support of the needs of Winter Colony residents. Isadore was a fixture at the Aiken Train Depot seeing to the transport needs of visitors & residents, including a young George HW Bush who was sent to Aiken by train to visit his Walker relatives in South Carolina. By 1930, the business was located on the current site of The Carriage House Inn. Services included a garage to store automobiles of Winter Colony residents in the off season as well as a car rental business, auto maintenance & a boarding house.
