Jacob S Poliakoff Home

Address: 911 Pendleton St (now 117 Pendleton St NW)

Timeframe: circa 1926 – circa 1937

Current Occupant: Johnson, Johnson, Whittle & Lancer Law Firm

This house was built by Jacob & Rebecca Poliakoff in 1922 after the house they previously occupied on Greenville St was destroyed by fire. The land for the house was purchased by Rebecca Poliakoff in 1907 for $605. The new house was constructed for a cost of around $10,000 and consisted of 12 rooms, including 2 baths & 2 sleeping porches. Jacob Poliakoff subsequently purchased an adjoining plot of land on Pendleton St in 1926 for $850.

The 1930 census lists Jacob as living in this house with three of his children: Gussie, Sadie & Belle. Rebecca Poliakoff had passed away in 1928.

The house was likely sold soon after Jacob passed away in 1937. Jacob retired from business in 1936 and was spending time visiting his children. It was on one such trip to Baltimore where he died in a tragic accident when the steamship he was traveling on caught fire and sank.

The house is currently occupied by the Johnson, Johnson, Whittle & Lancer law firm which uses it for their offices.
