Morris Rudnick (1890-1943) initially came to Aiken due to family connections; his sister Sophie was married to Solomon Surasky. Morris opened a dry goods with George Payeff in 1911 that operated under the name Famous Bargain Store. Morris subsequently went into business on his own, purchasing a building on Main Street (now Laurens) in 1919 for $10,500 and locating his dry goods store there. This dry goods store store was converted to a furniture store (Rudnick Furniture) in the 1930s and operated out of this location until the 1960s when it was moved to a location on Park Avenue
