Patricia Theater

Type of Business: Movie Theater

Years of Operation: 1938-1962

Location: 120 Laurens St NW (formerly ReMax Real Estate)

Family: Ram (Bert & Esther)

Herbert (Bert) Ram (1901-1970) came to Aiken in 1930 with his wife Esther and took over operation of the State Theater on Park Ave which was destroyed by fire in 1938. After the fire, Bert bought property on Laurens Street and built this new movie theater which he named for his daughter Patricia. He subsequently built another (larger) movie theater on the same block that he named for his daughter Rosemary. The Patricia theater was closed in 1962 and converted to retail space.

Until recently it was home to the office of ReMax real estate. Looking the shape of the building, you can still see from its’ former life as a movie house.
