Raymond Kaplan (1927-1973), the son of Samuel & Ida Kaplan became an optometrist and opened for business on Laurens St around 1950. He ran this business until he passed away in 1973 after which the business remained open at least for a time. Raymond was an active member of the Aiken Jewish community and in Aiken civic affairs. He served on Aiken City Council and was named Aiken Jaycees Man of the Year. He was also a member of the Aiken Lions Club and President of the Aiken County Association of Retarded Children.
