Family: Surasky (HC, Sol, Sam)

The Surasky Brothers — including HC Surasky (1870-1932), Sam Surasky (1880-1949) & Sol Surasky (1876-1941) — initially opened a stand “perched under a stairwell” at HL Polier’s store on Main (Laurens) St in 1899 before opening their own store a few doors down in 1904. Their store occupied two store fronts and was next door to a store run by their brother BM Surasky called Surasky’s Department Store. Both stores were run as a single partnership among the four brothers until that partnership was dissolved in 1917. HC, Sam & Sol continued to operate Surasky Brothers store together until 1921 – when HC split his business from Sam & Sol to open his own store. At that time, there were 3 Surasky stores operating side by side in Aiken: HC Surasky’s, BM Surasky's and Sol & Sam Surasky’s.
